Our college held industrial visit to Goa which was unforgettable moment for us. Our journey started from 14th January 2019 at CSTM station. We were very excited to gather at 9.30 pm. Our train timing was 11.05 pm and happily enjoying we left from Mumbai.
On 15th January 2019 we reached at Thivim Station with a cold climate. We checked in at hotel Pinto Rosario Square Resort & Spa. On same day we went to Finolex Cables Limited India’s largest and leading manufacturer of Electrical and Communication cables. Its wire and cable products are used in applications such as automobile, lighting, cable TV, telephone and computers to industrial applications touching every person in his daily life. In recent years, Finolex has added Electrical Switches, LED based Lamps, Fans, low voltage MCBs and a range of Water Heaters to its product portfolio. The company’s manufacturing facilities are located at Verna in Goa, Pune in Maharashtra and Roorkee in Uttarakhand. To support its requirement of Copper Rods for both types of cables, the company manufactures Continuous Cast Copper Rods (CCC rods), at its Rod Plant at Goa. Currently only a small part of this production of CCC rods is sold to third party customers. Finolex Cables Ltd, the flagship company of the Finolex Group, was incorporated in the year 1967. The company started their operation with the manufacture of PVC insulated electrical cables for the automobile industry. Over the years, the company has become the country’s largest electrical and telecommunication cables manufacturer. During the year 1988-89, the company signed a technical collaboration with Norddeutsche Seekable Werke, Germany, for manufacturing hi-tech special submersible cables. Also, they started commercial production at their new plant in Urse. Engineering Monitors (India) Pvt Ltd became the subsidiary of the company during the year. During the year 1992-93, Creole Holdings Company Ltd and Finolex Finance Ltd became the subsidiaries of the company. During the year 1995-96, the company formed a joint venture with Essex Group Inc, USA and AT&T, USA for manufacturing Continuous Cast Copper Rods and with AT&T, USA for manufacturing Fiber Optic Cables respectively. During the year 1997-98, Finoram Sheets Ltd became the subsidiary company, since the equity contribution went up form 50% to 57.88%.In December 1999, the company’s manufacturing facility at Verna in Goa commenced their commercial production. During the year 1999-2000, the company acquired 50% shareholding of SX Mauritius Holdings Inc, Mauritius held in the joint venture company Finolex Essex Industries and hence Finolex Essex Industries became a wholly owned subsidiary of Finolex Cables and was renamed as Finolex Wire Products. Also, Finoram Sheets Ltd was amalgamated with the company during the year. During the year 2001-02, the company acquired optic business of Finolex Technologies Ltd, which is engaged in the manufacture of Optic Fibre Cables. The Company’s Optic Fibre Division undertook an expansion during the year, which was commissioned in September 2004.During the year 2002-03, the company launched V-SAT Cables for V-SAT application for connecting the Dish to the Base Station. The company introduced a new variant of optic fibre cable called TOP Cable wherein the glass fibres are totally encapsulated by extruded FRP sheath over the loose tube. They also introduced UPS Cables used for providing power from the UPS to the computer/ appliances in the networking environment. During the year 2004-05, the company in collaboration with a Private sector insurance company introduced a personal accident insurance scheme for the benefit of the eligible electricians from all over the country. They also developed new products which includes, LAN cables, CAT 6 cable, LAN CAT SE cable and CAT 6 + UTP LAN cable.During the year 2005-06, the companys subsidiaries namely Finolex Wire Products Ltd and Finolex Finance Ltd were merged with the company with effect from April 1, 2005. In August 2006, the company launched Finoglow, their brand of Compact Fluorescent Lamps. During the year 2006-07, the company launched 1.1 KV grade XLPE insulated and heat resistant PVC jacketed flat cable, LAN Cat-6 cable with ring type marking, 50 ohm coaxial cable with conductor dia 2.75 mm, 100 pair switchboard cable and RG11 coaxial cable with copper clad aluminium conductor. During the year 2007-08, the company commissioned their high voltage power cables plant at Urse near Pune and thus added high voltage power cables upto 66 KV rating to their range of electrical cables. Also, they commissioned their CFL manufacturing facility offers a promising work environment where individuals are nurtured to grow as professionals. With the belief that an organisation grows when its people do, Finolex regularly conducts training programmes for its employees. Where we collected information about different cables information and on the same day we also went to the famous Dona Paula beach is quite bustling with plenty of activities round the year. Located 7 kms away from the Panaji, this beach has become one of the most happening beaches of the Goa. It is snuggled on the southern part of the rocky headland where the Mandovi and the Zuari rivers meet the Arabian Sea. The beach is very popular as lovers paradise because of a myth attached to this place. As per the legend, Viceroy’s daughter Dona Paula de Menezes jumped off the cliff after facing objections from her family due to her love affair with a son of a fisherman. So, the beach is popular by the name of Dona Paula. It’s a lover’s paradise that offers a splendid view of the Mormugao harbor and fringed by casuarinas woods & palm trees.
Relish the wonderful view from above the hillock and relax in benches along with taking pleasure of the evening sea breeze and sunset. This place attracts its tourists who come to wonder at its natural beauty, pristine beach and the romantic legend connected with it. The dainty coastline of the beach is long stretches of silver white sand that has superb view of the beachfront. If you want to choose some local knick-knacks, wander to the beachside stalls that offer excellent ranges of straw hats, handkerchiefs, feni, port wine, etc. Other than this, there are also some seafood restaurants near the beach where you can have your lunch and relax after a day of sunbathing. In short, the beach is a mix and match of adventurous water sports, romance and sparkling nightlife.
On 16th January 2019 Shri Mangueshi Temple is situated in the Ponda Taluka at a place called Priol and houses the deity Lord Mangueshi, an incarnation of Lord Shiva the Hindu God of Destruction. Lord Mangueshi is recognized as Lord Shiva only in the regions of Goa .The distance of the Mangueshi temple from Panaji the capital of Goa is 22 km. After that we went to Old Goa contains churches including the Se Cathedral (the seat of the Archbishop of Goa), the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the Church of St. Caetano and, notably, the Basilica of Bom Jesus which contains the relics of Saint Francis Xavier, which is celebrated every year on 3 December with novenas beginning on 24 November.
Miramar beach is listed amongst the most popular beaches of Goa due to its location. Located in the Capital of Goa; it is very easily accessible by the tourists as well as the locals. Named Porta de Gaspar Dias by the Portuguese; today it is called Miramar beach. This beach is also a hot spot to celebrate local festivals. Clean, filled with soft sand; it is quite a destination for evening walks and early morning strolls. Shopping is Miramar Beach means shopping for local stuff, including designer dresses, scarfs, hats, seashell bangles, jute shoes, artificial jewellery, showpieces and stuff like these. A lot of thingslike these are sold in the local beach side shops are sold here. For something exquisite, you will have to look into the shops of Panjim. The Santa Monica takes you on a leisurely cruise along the Mandovi River. While the boat sails down the river, local boys and girls perform folk dances and sing mandos. Their performance is followed up a live band. The Santa Monica then takes you past the Panjim riverfront to Miramar to witness a spectacular sunset.
This cruise is generally included in the North Goa Tours arranged by the GTDC. This is an hour long cruise on the Santa Monica which takes guests out on a leisurely sail down the River Mandovi from the Santa Monica jetty in Panaji. While the vessel sails serenly down the river past the beautiful Adil Shah Palace that was once the first building in Panjim City. This was the summer palace of the Sultan which was then used by the Viceroy of Portugal and finally by the government of Goa as its Secretariat. Now that a new Secretariat is in use on Porvorim Hill across the river Mandovi, the Adil Shah Palace wil be turned into a cultural centre with art galleries and concert halls, etc.
While you sail down the river local boys and girls treat you to some Goa’s best known folk dances, the dekhni and the fugdi. They sing mandos and finally give over centrestage to live musicians or a DJ and the guest can then sing and dance and generally make merry. This cruise is a huge success with people of all ages, men, women and children.
On 17th January 2019 we went to Baga beach which is one of the most famous beaches of India and is considered to be a part of this “Calangute” beach. This paradise is situated about 15km from the capital city of Panaji. Calangute beach is the largest beach in north Goa. This beach is a hub for tourists from all over the world.
This beach offers cool breeze and awe-stunning sunsets which will leave the tourist mesmerized. As the shore of this particular sea glitters when the light directly incidents the water in here, this beach is also well known as the queen of beaches. Due to the picturesque scenes which this beach offers, this beach is the perfect destination for a laidback holiday.This beach is one of the most commertialized beaches of goa. Many eating joints, parlors , tatoo shops are lined up in here. Beer is damn cheap in here. One could enjoy a chilled bottle of beer and the sunset which this beach offers. Many water sports such as jet skiing which are very rare are also found in here. Due to these reasons, Calangute beach is one of the most sought-after beaches in the world! It is a huge market with many stalls and shops. Panjim Municipal Market is one of the best and the largest markets in Goa for shopping. Groceries, knick – knacks, handbags, wines, cashew nuts, local handicrafts, Goan spices, clothing, jewellery and every other product which we buy from other markets can be purchased here at reasonable price. A shopping addicted person or the person who want to take some wonderful products from Goa, and then they should visit this market. You would also find variety of sweets. It is open daily from 7. 30 am to late evening.
And therefore we collected a luggage full of information and unforgettable memories from Goa.
